Basic approach

In our globalised world no topic, point of view, or area of research exists in isolation; there are only smaller or greater, simpler or more complex correlations. The Faculty of Social Sciences focuses on these interconnections since our principal educational and research trends complement and reinforce each other.

Basic set

We examine the interplay between society, economy and culture via the study of economic roles, societal groups and institutions; we examine the restrictions on information; and European integration. We also assist in the work of our external experts who complement the research of staff in the faculty.


We provide funding for:

*  theoretically and methodologically well-established empirical research,

*  comparative analyses,

*  international tenders,

*  surveys conducted in co-operation with high-ranking professional workshops,

*  tenders aimed at enhancing co-operation between the faculty and university workshops,

*  research dealing with the social, economic, and cultural effects of information technology

*  research dealing with the social and political conditions of European integration.

*  Social and cultural resources in the economy.

*  Economic players, entrepreneurs and employees.

*  The information technology society.

*  Poverty, gender issues, non-security and ethnicity.

*  Social imbalances and integration issues.

*  Deviance.

2. The social and political conditions of international integration.

*  The historical antecedents of integration.

*  Contradictions of the globalised international system.

*  Foreign policy and the international environment.

*  Harmonisation of the Hungarian political institutional system with Europe.

*  European trends and development of the Hungarian school system.

*  Integration and cultural adaptation.

Interplay between education and research in the scientific research of the faculty

The faculty has several doctoral schools, the students of which are also involved in scholarly research. In this way while gaining firsthand experience in scientific research work, students can also directly incorporate their findings in the practice of education.

Each of the above-mentioned research fields – in part or in whole – is an integral part of the education program (in which case new research results contribute significantly to the updating and the modernizing of our programs). In other cases based on research results new topics are introduced into the curriculum in the form of new courses. The research topics are exploited for educational purposes by the participating educators as well as via books and publications.

In the near future we would like to improve the cooperation of the departments with the special student study groups and colleges, and their involvement in the development of the curricula built on the new research results.
