Pro Facultate award for Prof. Dr. Cai Yu-liang| 2014.09.04.

Faculty of Horticultural Science of Corvinus University of Budapest recognize the outstanding contribution of Prof. Dr. Cai Yu-liang to development of Sino-Hungarian cooperation in horticultural higher education and research and to dissemination of Hungarian intensive cherry growing methods, rootstocks and training system in China with „Pro Facultate Horticulturae” award.

Prof. Dr. Cai Yu-liang started his carrier in Fruit Research Centre of Agricultural Academy of Shaanxi province in Xi’an, and in Luo-chuan county. He worked on the development of intensive apple growing and high density orchard systems, adaptation of dwarfing rootstocks along the loess plateau of Huang-ho (Yellow river). He participated between 1993-98 in the UNDP project, cooperated with American, British and Hungarian researchers on the development of virus free propagating system, development of nurseries and introduction of intensive cherry growing systems. He joined to the Northwest Agricultural & Forestry University, (Shaanxi, Yangling), Horticultural College in 1999 as assistant professor, from 2001 associate professor and from 2006 tutor and supervisor of master students. His major research activity focuses to research of intensive cherry growing systems, cooperating with researchers from Hungary, Great Britain and New-Zealand. He was the leader of two Sino-Hungarian Technical-Scientific Exchange Projects with Corvinus University of Budapest and coordinated the cooperation with Hungarian researchers. He invited several times Hungarian experts as advisor to his development projects financed by Chinese authorities. The cooperation was extended to the processing technology of cherries involving experts of the Faculty of Food Sciences. Prof. Cai, the Vice President of NWA&FU participated in the scientific conference in Budapest, organized in 2011 by the Corvinus University. Prof. Cai organized in 2012 the first Sino-Hungarian Cherry growing conference in Yangling, where several scientists participated of six Chinese provinces.

He was appointed to full professor in 2008. His research activity extended to investigations with modern genetic methodology of the Prunus genepool, collected in their institute, as well as breeding and evaluation of cultivars and rootstocks. Since then he was supervisor of several PhD students. He received five research grants and awards. In 2013 his research project focusing to the cherry cultivar evaluation and selection of crow gall tolerating rootstocks, received the first prize of Peoples Government of Shaanxi Province, and the same project was awarded by the first prize of the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture, presented for the results of outstanding scientific-technical research and development.
