Dear University Citizens,

After the Hungarian Government’s press conference today, the secretariat responsible for higher education of the Ministry for Innovation and Technology debriefed the leaders of the Hungarian universities regarding the Government’s policies with respect to higher education institutions. After that, the leadership of the University convened to discuss the most important steps of the next several days.

Based on this, we would like to inform you that, based on the Government’s decision, Dr. András Lánczi, rector of the University ordered a recess for March 12-13, this Thursday and Friday.

The next week, from March 16 to March 20, will be the early spring break country-wide. This period gives us the opportunity to prepare for moving on with our educational activities after the spring break. We will provide you with more detailed information in the upcoming days.

The Reading Room service of the University Library will remain unavailable, however loan services will be accessible in the next two days and throughout the early spring break, based on the schedule released by the Director General of the Library.

We would like to ask our Hungarian students residing in our dormitories to travel home if possible, and stay in the dormitory only in exceptional situations. Dormitory services will remain operating for our international students.

Expiration date of student IDs will automatically be extended while these extraordinary measures persist.

Once again, we ask our students, teachers and employees to, considering the situation, not visit any of the affected areas in the near future. A list of countries that have registered cases so far can be found here.

This exceptional break does not affect the employees and teachers of the University. For the time being, rules regarding work schedules, paid and sick leaves remain unchanged. We will work extremely hard on creating the operational framework for continuing our educational activities, and we will provide you with further information tomorrow.

The President’s Committee’s order on this topic will remain in force.

We would like to ask you to pay extreme attention to the communication channels of the University.
